Calderglen Country Park: Pump Track

Calderglen Country Park will expand its offer for visitors through the addition of a new cycling pump track.

The pump track is aimed at a younger age range, to encourage bike skills and mobility, and provide a family-friendly visitor attraction. The location of the pump track is near to the existing play area and wider valley walking trails.

The pump track materials will consist of tarmac, compacted gravel and be formed from grass embankments. The design has been developed with accessibility in mind, the track itself is suitable for users of all abilities and is suitable for a wide range of wheeled transport including some wheelchairs.

The pump track is the first project to be delivered as part of a 10-year masterplan for Calderglen Country Park and will enhance the appeal of the park for families. More information on the Masterplan can be found under ‘Overview’ at the top of this page.

The construction of the pump track will begin on 31 August 2026, with completion anticipated pre Christmas, subject to adverse weather conditions and progress of the works. Updates will be provided as the project progresses.

For safety reasons, the main children’s play area at Calderglen will be closed for the duration of the works to enable construction access to the site. It will reopen temporarily for the September weekend and October week for use during the school holidays. Live updates on the status of the project and play park opening times will be provided on South Lanarkshire Council and South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture social media channels.

The pump track is located to the north east of the existing play area. This location allows proximity to the new Gateway Centre, entrance plaza and car park, as well as connections to the active travel route.
