Calderglen Country Park: Active Travel
New Active Travel Route CG4
A new active travel route is proposed from Colonsay Field car park to Arrival Plaza for pedestrians and cyclists.
Proposals include a bridge which spans over the Rotten Calder river through the existing woodland. The route will run alongside the avenue of trees between the sports pitches and terminate at the historic house and courtyard.
The new route will reinforce the sense of arrival to the park, make the existing entrance less congested and safer while encouraging more visitors to walk and cycle to the park.

The 400 meter length route will be lighted with wayfinding to enhance safety and legibility.
The location of the path has been carefully selected to offer the most direct route to the park whilst protecting the existing trees of the area. The proposal works with the existing site levels across the river to provide an accessible route of entry.
The bridge design will be developed with sensitivity to the landscape and will utilise efficient engineering solutions. The route which will incorporate lighting will consider the effects of light pollution whilst offering appropriate lighting levels for users. Sustainable drainage will be included
