Improved access across Calderglen is proposed, and will include a revamped signage and wayfinding strategy, improved car parking layout and surfacing at Colonsay Field, and areas of improved drainage and external lighting.
The current signs and wayfinding at Calderglen can be improved to become a clear set of signs which welcome visitors into the park. The signs will be located at key points within the park to assist visitors, as well as informing them of the park’s history and current recreational offerings.

At Colonsay Field, access for vehicles can be improved by partial resurfacing of the Field, and integrating sustainable drainage systems to cope with rainfall and localised flooding. The revamped car park can link directly to the Active Travel Route (see board CG4), and provide an inclusive, accessible route from the car park across to the new visitor centre and entrance areas.
The central car park outside the proposed visitor centre will also be enhanced, with integrated swales to manage rainfall and water run-off. Tree planting and clear footpaths through the car park will make it a more pleasant, safe arrival space.
External lighting will be proposed throughout the visitor centre space to make it welcoming, safe and legible during evening and winter opening hours.
