New Gateway Centre and Walled Garden Transformation with Arrival Plaza CG1
A new Gateway Centre that takes the form of a contemporary structure will redefine the park’s arrival experience. Located beside a newly landscaped arrival plaza, the building is positioned to frame key views over the walled garden which will also be transformed.
Historic Courtyard Buildings Transformation CG2
The existing café is expanded and reconfigured to improve circulation, increase seating capacity, and enhance catering and toilet facilities. The courtyard’s architectural character is preserved through sensitive enhancement, while new interventions introduce comfort, accessibility, and a stronger connection to the surrounding gardens.
New Conservation and Animal Rehabilitation Centre CG3
The proposed Conservation and Animal Rehabilitation Centrenat Calderglen Country Park will be a flagship facility supporting wildlife rehabilitation, conservation education, and community engagement. Building upon the park’s established zoo, the new centre aims to provide specialist care for animals while fostering public awareness of biodiversity, sustainability, and animal welfare.
New Active Travel Route CG4
A new active travel route is proposed from the Colonsay Field car park to arrival plaza for pedestrians and cyclists. The route includes a bridge that spans over the river through the existing woodland. The new route will reinforce the sense of arrival to the park, make the existing entrance far less
congested and safer, and encourage more pedestrian and cycle access.
Enhanced Roads / Wayfinding / Lighting including Partial Surfacing of Colonsay Field CG5
Colonsay Field will be partially formalised to provide improved parking access to the park. Proposals include carriageway surfaces which are suitable for wheelchair users and buggies, porous parking bays and swales to provide a natural and sustainable aesthetic appropriate to the park. Furthermore, items such as road resurfacing, new lighting and signage will help to improve access to the park by making entry clearer and safer.
New Pump Track near Existing Adventure Play Area CG6
A new pump track is to be located to the north east of the existing play area. This location allows proximity to the new Gateway Centre, entrance plaza and car park, as well as connections to the active travel route.
Power / Water / WIFI Infrastructure Distributed around the Park for Events CG7
Enhancements to the event spaces to the north of the courtyard and Colonsay Field will provide infrastructure such as water, power, and digital connectivity, allowing events to offer enhanced services.
