To restore Chatelherault Country Park’s outstanding historic buildings, gardens and grounds as a sustainable place for local people and visitors to connect with each other, to learn and discover, to connect with nature and to be active and relax, all while celebrating South Lanarkshire’s cultural heritage.

Priority Theme 1: Financial Resilience

Strengthen the financial sustainability of Chatelherault Country Park by maximising income generation and commercial, and external funding opportunities.

  • Maximise opportunities to generate income at Chatelherault through catering, events and innovative paid for facilities and services.
  • Increase commercial and sponsorship activities which enhance the park and the visitor experience.
  • Explore, develop and secure external funding that can be invested in Chatelherault to sustain it for future generations.
  • Secure funding through Section 75 planning obligations / developer contributions.

Priority Theme 2: Health and Wellbeing

Chatelherault Country Park supports health and wellbeing, contributes to social inclusion and enhances quality of life for people of all ages and abilities.

  • Ensure good connectivity and physical access to Chatelherault and improved paths and bridges network within the park for residents to enjoy.
  • Improve visitor facilities and event infrastructure to create a welcoming, attractive space that encourages repeat visits for leisure, recreation, and community engagement, while promoting health and wellbeing.
  • Maximise opportunities for activities which support physical and mental health and wellbeing.

Priority Theme 3: Heritage Assets

Manage, preserve and enhance Chatelherault outstanding historic buildings and cultural heritage while contributing to South Lanarkshire’s economic and net zero targets.

  • Restore the Hunting Lodge, and associated buildings, for sustainable and resilient uses to secure the long term viable future of the site and aspire to be carbon neutral.
  • Preserve and enhance Chatelherault’s courtyard, historic gardens, trees and views to provide diverse creative spaces for events and activities.
  • Identify and manage pressure points of high usage to ensure Chatelherault heritage sites continue to be protected for future generations.
  • Manage historic buildings so there are opportunities to connect communities to the value of heritage and conservation.

Priority Theme 4: Woodlands, Landscape and Vistas

Manage, preserve and enhance Chatelherault’s unique woodlands, landscape, viewpoints and path network while contributing to South Lanarkshire’s commitments to net zero.

  • Protect and enhance green / blue assets and infrastructure, in particular historic features, sensitive habitats and special landscapes.
  • Identify and manage pressure points of high usage to ensure Chatelherault’s unique landscape continues to be accessible to visitors for generation to come sites
  • Manage our woodlands, landscape and vistas to enhance opportunities to connect communities to the value of heritage and conservation.
